“DiggerFilms” came to life in 2003, in the aftermath of the shooting of “Stories of a Gravedigger Chapter 1: The Deadtime Stories.” Shot with less than 6 000$ dollars Canadian (about 4 000 US with the exchange rate of the time) “Stories of a Gravedigger” was a major landmark for the young filmmakers behind “DiggerFilms.” Trying to sell the movie took them all across the United States, allowing them to meet a large number of people in the horror industry.
Since then, “DiggerFilms” has produced quite a few short-films which have been screened at various festivals, like “Le Festival Fantasia,” “Festival Spasm de Montréal,” and the “Sainte-Maxime International Horror Film Festival” in France. “DiggerFilms” has also been awarded various awards like “Best Directing,” “Best Killing Scene” and “Public Choice Award” for the movie “The Hit.” Their last short-film, “Dead Pussy” is starring two well known actors in Quebec : Jean-Nicolas Verreault and Normand D'Amour.
“DiggerFilms” also tries to support and encourage independent cinema since its creation. Lately, “The Gravedigger” (DiggerFilms' cartoon mascot) has started a daily blog on which he promotes an independent horror movie a day. T he Gravedigger is not a critic though, he simply exhibits posters and trailers from those movies that need a little free publicity.
These days, “Diggerfilms” is working on a short horror film that should be shot in 2010 and a feature-length horror movie that should come out in 2011.
